Ceramics and texture are definitely really in trend right now, and they're absolutely a great way to spice up any space to add more interest, rawness and that eclectic feel into a space. Buying ceramics or any pottery-sort-of décor can sometimes be pretty expensive, considering the amount of time and effort spent on creating each and every individual piece. But fret not, here's how you can make your own using things that you already have at hand with only 2 ingredients!
Part 1: Preparing the paint
As you've read the title, we're not just using any regular paint, we're turning paint into textured paint. This is what's gonna turn your décor of choice into that ceramic, textured look you like from pottery pieces.
Pick any color of paint you desire, and put about 1/3 cup of the paint in a container/palette or anything that you have around the house.
Now, this is the crucial and secret ingredient for making textured paint: baking soda. Put the baking soda in twice the amount paint into the paint that you've chosen.
Mix them together until they turn into a thick, gritty, textured paste. If it's still too runny, add in more baking soda into the mixture. Adjust the consistency according to your liking.
Your textured paint is ready to go!
Part 2: Upcycle junk into a décor piece
Now that you've got your textured paint ready, it's time to choose which ever glass jar, bottle, container or anything that you have around and turn it into a masterpiece!
Paint over the desired object of your choice until every nook and cranny of it is covered in the paint.
To add extra texture, paint the object in opposite strokes to create that gritty effect you get from ceramics.
When you're happy with what you have, leave it in a dry place until the paint is completely dry.
Now you have your own ceramic décor piece that is ready to be displayed in all it's glory!
You can definitely try out this project on any other glassware that you have. Spice up the masterpiece that you made by putting in dried florals or maybe incorporate different colors into the paint. Customize the piece into however you want it to look like! And little do you know — you're also helping the environment by recycling glass materials into something that you actually adore!
